Baghdad to Bach: Our Second Concert
Friday, September 18, 7:30 p.m.
|
Baghdad to Bach is our second spoken word/music event featuring acclaimed musician and composer Peter Blanchette. Last September's sold-out concert featured short, recorded SKYPE conversations with ICAE's long-time partner Dr. Mazin Al-Jadiry from Children's Welfare Teaching Hospital in Medical City Baghdad. This year's format will be similar, music with spoken word segments scattered throughout, but we will have Dr. Mazin LIVE at Helen Hills Hills Chapel in Northampton offering insights and poetry from Iraq.
Also performing, the Clarinet Quartet from the Northampton Community Music School, with teacher MaryEllen Miller and students: Maggie Friel, Bobby Innes-Gold and Ben Moss-Horwitz performing two short quartets
This group performed at our exhibit/symposium Having the Life of Our Times at the Northampton Center for the arts in 2011. Each student chose a mural and composed a composition -- a “sounding”.
And, we will have a few words from Taleen Dilanyan, an Iraqi student entering her senior year at Smith College.
There will be a reception afterwards in the Bodman Lounge.
